People apply online. Simple form. People lend directly to the applicants.
Lenders can lend as little or as much as they want.
Borrowers can borrow as much as they need.
Borrowers upload a photo of themselves and their families. When they move in, they can upload more photos of their new home, share stories about the home, let the community know how they're doing.
Since borrowers and lenders are connected, if a borrower needs a new job or home repairs or whatever, the whole community can help. The lender, in particular, will have a vested interested in seeing his or her borrowers succeed.
Maybe I'm being naive, but I think there are a whole lot of people in this country who would love to make a difference. People who've done exceedingly well (are you reading this, Mr. Fuld?) and people who are just comfortable.
Sure, these loans will be in the tens or hundreds of thousands, but I have faith in Americans. We have a long tradition of raising barns and reaping crops together. Think of this as a 21st century barn raising.
Believe and it will happen.
